Election Integrity: Voting Machine Thanks You For Your Donation Before Counting Ballot
Officials said the new civic interface does not influence votes, though it does briefly ask whether democracy has earned 18%.
Several polling places have introduced voting machines that thank citizens for their donation before counting the ballot.
After selecting candidates, voters are shown a civic appreciation screen offering donation options of 15%, 20%, 25%, or I Prefer My Vote To Arrive With No Extras.
"The ballot remains secret and secure," said county election technology coordinator Harlan Voss. "We simply believe voters appreciate a moment to support the democratic infrastructure that just watched them choose a sheriff."
Officials said donations will help pay for machine maintenance, poll-worker training, and the small processing fee democracy apparently forgot to mention.
Voters who decline to donate will still have their ballots counted after a short pause that everyone described as constitutionally weird.
