Safety First: Tesla Requires Drivers To Verbally Release It From Liability Every 11 Seconds

The car will continue driving once the operator clearly states that anything currently happening is probably their fault.

Tesla has updated its driver-assistance software to require motorists to verbally release the company from liability every 11 seconds.

Drivers must now say "I am responsible for whatever this is" in a clear voice before the car will continue accelerating toward anything shaped like a lane, shadow, emergency vehicle, or concept.

"We believe safety begins with accountability," said autonomy policy manager Vikram Noss. "Specifically, accountability leaving the vehicle and entering the driver's mouth at regular intervals."

If the system detects hesitation, sarcasm, or the phrase "but Elon said," the car will slow down, flash a dashboard message, and ask the driver to remember who clicked Accept.

Tesla said the feature is still in beta, which is a sentence America has learned to fear while moving 71 miles per hour.
