A local church has added a tip screen before communion, giving parishioners the option to select 18, 22, or 25 percent gratitude before receiving the sacrament.

The small payment terminal appears beside the altar rail and rotates toward worshippers after the words “the body of Christ,” creating a brief moment of eye contact between the believer, the minister, and a machine that knows who chose custom amount.

“Nobody is required to tip,” said church treasurer Linda Cross. “But the Lord does love a cheerful giver, and the screen does make a tiny disappointed sound if you hit skip.”

Church leaders said proceeds will support roof repairs, youth group snacks, and a new outreach program for people who left after being asked to rate the sermon using a QR code.

The church is also testing a premium pew reservation system, though elders stressed that salvation will remain general admission for the time being.
