A touching scene unfolded outside a funeral reception hall when an Amazon driver waited until every mourner had finished hugging in the parking lot before asking the family to rate the delivery experience.

Witnesses said the driver, who arrived with a replacement phone charger and two bulk boxes of paper towels, stood silently near the guest book for nearly 40 minutes, removing his hat during the prayer and only checking his route timer with the discretion of a man whose bladder had been optimized by software.

“He could have interrupted the eulogy, but he waited until my aunt was alone by the punch bowl,” said family member Denise Cavill. “That kind of dignity is rare now.”

According to the family, the driver then offered condolences, pointed out that the package was placed in a safe, respectful location, and asked whether the deceased would have wanted them to tap the smiling box icon.

The company praised the employee for balancing empathy with metrics, adding that future versions of the app may include a “recent loss” checkbox that unlocks 90 additional seconds of human behavior.
