Tax Season: TurboTax Adds Button That Says I Am Too Poor To Be This Scared
The company said the button helps users express the gap between their refund size and the fear generated by a federal acronym.
TurboTax has added a button that says I Am Too Poor To Be This Scared.
The button appears after users enter a second W-2, a $47 interest form, or anything involving the word distribution despite having spent the year buying store-brand cereal with a calculator open.
"We heard from customers who felt the product did not fully capture their fear-to-income ratio," said consumer tax empathy lead Jolene Crabb. "A person making $38,000 should not have to feel like they are laundering money because they drove for DoorDash twice."
Clicking the button opens a simplified interface, a short breathing exercise, and a reminder that the IRS probably has larger problems unless the user sold one chair on Facebook Marketplace.
TurboTax said the feature is free, with a $39 state filing upgrade if the fear crosses state lines.
