Bare Fare: Spirit Airlines Introduces $12 Option To Keep Your Knees Legally Inside Your Body
The airline said passengers deserve choice, especially when that choice concerns the basic geometry of their own legs.
Spirit Airlines has introduced a $12 option allowing passengers to keep their knees legally inside their bodies during flight.
The add-on, called Anatomical Continuity, gives travelers enough forward space to experience the flight as a seated human rather than a folded apology with a boarding pass.
"Our guests value flexibility," said ancillary revenue manager Preston Vail. "Some want a checked bag. Some want a soda. Some want their femurs to remain in a relationship with the rest of them."
Passengers who decline the option may still fly, though the airline recommends arriving early to negotiate terms with the seatback.
Spirit said the fee reflects its commitment to unbundling every part of travel until the customer can finally see what dignity costs.
