Planet Fitness Adds Black Card Perk Where Trainer Asks If You’re Avoiding Your Wife

The gym says the premium check-in helps members separate fitness goals from driveway dread.

Planet Fitness has added a Black Card perk where a trainer gently asks whether the member is working out or avoiding his wife.

The new check-in takes place after the third treadmill walk under 2.5 miles per hour and begins with a trainer sitting beside the member, lowering the clipboard, and saying, "Be honest, is the garage too quiet when you get home?"

"Fitness is personal," said member engagement director Colin Trask. "Some men come here for cardio. Some come here because they circled the block twice and could not make themselves pull into the driveway."

Members who answer yes receive 10 minutes of stretching, one bottle of water, and a suggestion to stop describing errands as "me time" if the errand is just sitting in the car behind Best Buy.

Planet Fitness said the service remains judgment-free, though trainers may raise an eyebrow if the member has been foam rolling the same calf for 46 minutes.
