The metal band, Megalithic Destruction recently made a huge mistake when they asked Ultimate Guitar to take down guitar tabs for their older songs. What was supposed to be a stand against copyright infringement became a huge blunder for the group, as they soon realized they could not remember how to play some of their more complex songs.
The band’s lead guitarist, Jaxon Jones, was the one who initially requested Ultimate Guitar, thinking that it would be a good way to protect their music from being stolen. But as it turns out, nobody had stolen their music — their bandmates had forgotten how to play the songs!
“We thought that taking down the tabs would be a way to protect our music, but in retrospect, it was a huge mistake,” said Jones. “We now have no way to remember how to play some of our old songs, and it’s really embarrassing.“
The band has since issued a public apology to Ultimate Guitar and has asked that the tabs be put back up as soon as possible. In the meantime, they are trying to relearn their old songs by listening to recordings and watching videos of themselves performing live.
“We’ve learned our lesson,” said Jones. “From now on, we’ll keep our tabs up on Ultimate Guitar, and we’ll also make sure to practice our songs regularly so that we don’t forget them again!“
