I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have dinner at the home of Judas Priest’s legendary frontman, Rob Halford. As a casual listener of his music, I was excited to share a meal with one of the most iconic metal singers.
However, the night took an unexpected twist when Rob became increasingly obsessed with the British progressive metal band Sleep Token. With each passing minute, the singer’s raving grew more intense.
“Have you heard their latest album?” Rob asked, sweat glistening on his brow. “It’s an absolute masterpiece. Vessel is such a powerful and unique voice. I mean, who wears a mask and a hood while singing? Genius!“
I tried to change the subject, but Rob’s relentless praise of Sleep Token only grew more fervent.
“They have this song called ‘The Way That You Were’ that just gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. And their live shows? Unbelievable. The lights, the fog, the creepy hooded figure… it’s like being at a religious ceremony!“
As the night wore on, my frustration grew, and I desperately wished for a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. But alas, there was no escape from Rob’s incessant love for Sleep Token.
Finally, as the clock struck midnight and I prepared to flee the scene, Rob reached into his pocket and pulled out a CD.
“Before you go, I want to give you something,” he said, a manic glint in his eye. “This is Sleep Token’s latest album. It’s my gift to you. I know you’ll love it as much as I do.“
Defeated and resigned to my fate, I reluctantly accepted the CD and bid Rob farewell. As I walked away, I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d just made a deal with the devil.
So, if you ever find yourself having dinner at Rob Halford’s house, make sure to bring some earplugs and a healthy dose of patience.
