It’s time to admit it: Wes Borland, the enigmatic guitarist of Limp Bizkit, is the true inventor of the subgenre known as “djent.”
For years, fans of the genre have credited bands like Meshuggah and Periphery with its creation, but it turns out that Borland was ahead of his time. “I remember being in the studio with Wes back in the late 90s, and he was already experimenting with those chugging, staccato guitar riffs,” said Fred Durst, Limp Bizkit’s frontman. “We just didn’t know what to do with it at the time.“
Djent enthusiasts have quickly embraced Borland’s newfound status as the genre’s mastermind. “I always knew there was something special about Limp Bizkit’s guitar work,” said one fan on Reddit. “But I never would have guessed it was the birth of an entire subgenre.“
Others, however, feel a bit foolish for not realizing it sooner. “I can’t believe I spent all those years listening to Meshuggah and Periphery when the real genius was right in front of me,” said another fan.
Borland, for his part, seems to be taking it all in stride. “I’ve always known the truth,” he said in a recent interview with NME. “But I didn’t want to take away from the other bands. They’ve done great things with the sound I pioneered.“
With this revelation, it’s clear that the world of metal and rock music will never be the same. So raise a glass to Wes Borland, the true king of djent.
