Somehow, I found myself at a Billy Eilish concert recently. I knew some of her songs from the radio and I didn’t pay for the tickets.
When I arrived at the concert, I noticed that the usual merchandise table had been replaced with a table of voter registration forms. I didn’t think much of it at the time.
The show started out like any other concert. I was singing along, swaying to the music, and enjoying myself. But, then something strange happened. Suddenly, Billy Eilish stopped singing and started talking about politics. She began to passionately speak about the Democratic party and their platform.
I’m not sure how it happened, but one minute I was singing along to her hit ‘bad guy’ and the next moment I found myself chanting ‘Four More Years’ and waving my hands in unison with the other supporters.
Billy was joined by a number of prominent Democratic party leaders, including the mayor of Los Angeles, who took the stage to talk about why it was so important to get out and vote. As I listened to their speeches, I found myself becoming more and more convinced by their arguments.
For her encore, instead of singing one of her most popular songs, a giant photo of Donald Trump was projected behind her as the crowd chanted, ‘lock him up’ the energy was infectious.
