The United States military has taken down what they claim was a Chinese spy balloon, leaving millions of Chinese citizens without a clue as to what the weather will be like.
According to sources, the US government had been tracking the suspicious object for a day or so before finally taking action. However, it turns out the object in question was just a weather balloon, which the Chinese government insists was not carrying any sort of espionage equipment.
“We can assure the international community that the balloon was only gathering meteorological data,” stated a representative for China, as he was seen running magnets over a stack of backup drives.
Despite their reassurances, the US military remains suspicious and has defended their actions, stating that the balloon was “flying at a concerning altitude and speed.” Meanwhile, the Chinese people are left without their daily weather update, with some joking that they’ll have to rely on the old farmer’s almanac.
“I guess I’ll just have to guess whether I need an umbrella or not,” said one Chinese resident with a chuckle.
In the wake of the shoot-down, the Chinese government is rumored to be preparing a new, more secure weather balloon, while the US shows no signs of backing down from their stance that the object was indeed a spy device.
The situation remains murky, with two world powers at odds over the fate of a weather balloon. But one thing is for sure, the skies over China will remain cloudy until the truth is revealed.
