In yet another display of his undeniable talent for creepily fixating on women he’s never met, Tom Higgenson, vocalist of the Plain White T’s, has released a new single entitled “I’ve Been Expecting You, Meghan.”
The song, which Higgenson wrote after catching a glimpse of a woman on the street who caught his eye, is a haunting ode to the mysterious stranger, complete with lyrics like “I’ve been dreaming of your face / I know your name, I know your place / I’ve been expecting you, Meghan.”
But fans of the Plain White T’s shouldn’t be surprised by Higgenson’s latest foray into creepy stalker territory. After all, this is the same man who brought us such classics as “Hey There Delilah” and “1, 2, 3, 4.”
“Tom has always had a way with words when it comes to making women feel uncomfortable,” said an anonymous source. “I mean, just listen to ‘Hey There Delilah’ and tell me that isn’t some serious stalker vibes.“
Despite the obvious creep factor, “I’ve Been Expecting You, Meghan” is already climbing the charts and has even been praised by some as “creepily catchy.”
When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Higgenson stated, “I was just out running errands one day when I saw her, and I knew I had to write a song about her. I mean, I’ve never met her, I have no idea who she is, but I just felt this connection. I had to let her know that I’ve been expecting her and I will be seeing her really soon.“
When questioned about the potential creepiness of the lyrics, Higgenson simply shrugged and said, “I don’t see it as creepy, I just see it as romantic. I’m sure she’ll feel the same way once she hears the song and realizes that I’ve been thinking about her all this time.“
Many have expressed their concern over Higgenson’s behavior, especially with the #MeToo movement and the emphasis on consent. But it seems that Higgenson is unfazed by the backlash and continues to defend his actions. “I’m just expressing my love for her, what’s wrong with that? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I know deep down she will appreciate my love and dedication to her.“
The band’s management has also issued a statement regarding the matter, “We support our artists’ creative expression and the song is a work of fiction, but we also take the concerns of our fans very seriously and we will be sure to address this matter with Tom.“
It’s clear that Higgenson’s behavior is not only concerning but also problematic, and it’s important for fans and the industry to call out such behavior and hold artists accountable for their actions. In the meantime, it remains to be seen whether “I’ve Been Expecting You, Meghan” will be a hit or a miss, but one thing is certain, it’s certainly not the kind of love song we need in today’s society.
