Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendan Urie announced today that he has officially broken up with himself.
“I just couldn’t take it anymore,” Urie said in a statement. “I was tired of always being the one to initiate the creative process, and I was sick of always having to be the one to come up with new ideas. I needed some space to grow as an artist and as a person.”
Urie, who has been the sole remaining member of Panic! At the Disco since the band’s formation in 2004, revealed that the split had been a long time coming. “We’ve been growing apart for a while now,” he said. “I think it’s just time for us to move on.“
Fans of the band were shocked by the news, with many taking to social media to express their dismay. “I can’t believe it,” one fan wrote. “I thought they would be together forever.”
Others, however, were more understanding of Urie’s decision. “I think it’s brave of him to take a step back and focus on himself,” said another fan. “I’m excited to see what he comes up with next.”
As for Urie, he says he’s looking forward to the next chapter in his life. “I’m excited to see what I can do on my own,” he said. “I think I’m going to focus on some solo projects, and maybe even branch out into other genres. But first, I’m going to take a long vacation and just be by myself for a while.”
The news of the breakup has already sparked rumors of a reunion tour, but Urie was quick to shut that down. “I’m not sure if that’s something I’m ready for yet,” he said. “Right now, I just need some time to be alone.”
So there you have it, folks. Panic! At the Disco is officially over, and Brendan Urie is officially single. Let’s all take a moment to mourn the loss of one of the greatest bands of our time, and wish Urie all the best in his future endeavors.
But before you start feeling too down, remember that the show must go on, and the music will always be there. “Don’t Panic,” as they say.
