The internet was abuzz with outrage this week after Rolling Stone magazine published its controversial list of the “20 Best Dictators of All Time.” People from all walks of life took to social media to express their displeasure with the rankings, which left out some of the world’s most beloved tyrants.
“I can’t believe they left out Idi Amin!” one outraged Facebook user wrote. “He was a true inspiration to me and my friends. We all looked up to him and his iron-fisted rule.”
Another Twitter user echoed the sentiment, writing, “Where is my favorite? Saddam Hussein? He was one of the greatest. He was a real hero to many of us.”
The list, which featured the likes of Hitler and Mussolini, was met with equal amounts of criticism and confusion. “I don’t understand how they could rank Kim Jong-un higher than Kim Il-sung,” one commenter pondered. “They both had their flaws, but the original Kim was clearly superior in terms of sheer terror and oppression.”
The biggest criticism, however, was the omission of some fan favorites. “How could they forget about Manuel Noriega?” one user asked. “That man will always have a special place in my heart.”
Rolling Stone has yet to address the criticism. Which favorite dictator of yours didn’t make the list?
