Netflix Cancels ‘1899’ in Wake of Outrage Over Penis Statue Sculpting

In a move that comes as no surprise to viewers, Netflix announced today they have cancelled the show 1899 after a series of outcries over its depiction of animal penises.

The show, which follows the life of a man named Abe living in 1899 who sculpts animal statues with big penises, sparked a firestorm of controversy when it premiered. Viewers were outraged and took to social media to express their displeasure.

Wtf? @Netflix 1899 is sick. What am I watching?” Danny DeVito Tweeted when the show first premiered. In what went on to be his most liked

The show was met with a flurry of negative reviews, with many accusing it of being tasteless and offensive. Netflix executives responded slowly, before eventually cancelling the show.

We recognize that our programming should reflect the values of our viewers,” said a Netflix spokesperson. “In light of the feedback we’ve received, we have decided to cancel 1899.

The cancellation of the show comes after a series of other Netflix shows have been cancelled due to public backlash. Most recently, the streaming service cancelled the show Insatiable due to its offensive portrayal of fat people.

Though 1899 may have been cancelled, its legacy will live on in the form of memes and social media posts. From the infamous #1899Netflix hashtag to the countless jokes about penises, the show has become a viral sensation.

So while Netflix has decided to cancel 1899, it’s certainly not the last we’ve seen of Abe and his sculpting skills. He may be gone, but he’s certainly not forgotten.
