Kelis’s follow up single to her 2003 hit “Milkshake” has failed to have the same effect as the original. Released this week, “Loaded Thickshake” isn’t doing as well as fans had hoped.
The new single, which was described as a “heavier, more adult version of the classic Milkshake”, was met with mixed reviews. Critics called it a “lackluster attempt at recapturing the energy of the original” and “a brave but misguided attempt to revive a beloved classic”.
The song’s lyrics also faced a mixed reception. One verse said “My loaded thickshake, gonna make your girl go crazy/Spicy and chunky, it’s a real party/It’s got a kick, but it’s still smooth and creamy/Gonna show you what a real thickshake can be”.
Fans have taken issue with the chorus which many have dubbed lazy.
Don’t need no diet, I’m feelin’ fine.
I’m gonna get my fill of this thick shake of mine.
Don’t need no guilt, don’t need no shame.
Gonna get my fill of this thick shake, yeah yeah!
Kelis has yet to comment on the song’s performance. But one thing is certain – it won’t be shaking up the charts like Milkshake did.
