As an old-timer who fought in the thick of the Vietnam War, lemme tell you, I’ve been through some wild situations in my day. Hootin’ gibbons, the rat-a-tat-tat of machine guns, and that unforgettable whiff of gunpowder. But nothin’, and I mean nothin’, could’ve prepped me for the ear-splitting hullabaloo that is Metallica’s latest record, 72 Seasons – a monstrous piece of work that’d make the rumble of Huey choppers seem like a lullaby. It’s WAY too loud!
The guitars go strum strum, with the occasional screeching solo from Kirk Hammett on his wah pedal. The drums of Lars Ulrich make a booming sound that resonates through my bones like enemy Charlie raining down artillery fire on my unit, and James Hetfield’s vocals make me feel like I’m back in the jungle, fighting for my life.
It’s like they are all trying to outdo each other, and it’s just too much noise! They should turn down the volume a bit and maybe put in some softer music too.
My ears rang after listening to this album, and I don’t think I’ll play it again anytime soon! Some people might like it, but it’s not for me. Sorry Metallica, but this one is a miss!
